Mother Teresa Square forms the ceremonial heart of southern Tirana. The wide, open square was built in the 1930s during the Italian modernist urban expansion, recognizable by its clean lines, light natural stone, and monumental proportions. On the north side stands the National Archaeological Museum, with its tall tower, wide stairs, and arcade arches; the colonnade here forms the stately facade of the museum and marks the transition between the square and the building.
Around the square are the most important institutions of the university district, giving the space a mix of academic tranquility and urban dynamism.

Mother Teresa (Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu) was born in Skopje, but her family was ethnically Albanian and came from the region around Kosovo. Because of this, she is seen in Albania as a national figure, a moral compass, and a symbol of Albanian humanism.

At the end of the boulevard is Mother Teresa Square. In Italian fascist urban planning, the boulevard and square were intended to resemble an axe from above. The square would thus be the head. I think the renaming takes away some of the martial aspect of this image.
