Embark on the Harestanes loop via Floors Castle for a moderate racebike adventure covering 23.3 miles (37.4 km) with 1064 feet (324 metres) of elevation gain. This route, which takes about 1 hour and 36 minutes, offers a predominantly paved surface, ideal for road cycling. You will cycle through varied and picturesque scenery, including Bowmont Forest and along the River Teviot after crossing the Kalemouth suspension bridge. The trail provides fine views of the magnificent Floors Castle, Scotland's largest inhabited castle, and glimpses of the Waterloo Monument on Peniel Heugh. While mostly low-level, be prepared for some climbing sections.

Along the route, you will find several opportunities to pause and refresh. Consider stopping at Teviot Water Garden & Smokery or Monteviot House & Gardens. The Harestanes Countryside Visitor Centre also offers a café, craft workshops, a play park, and a wildlife garden. The castle grounds themselves provide additional woodland and riverside paths, along with a dedicated cycle trail, allowing you to extend your exploration of the beautiful landscape.

This trail is notable for its blend of natural beauty and rich history. Beyond the impressive Floors Castle, you will pass the historic Waterloo Monument and cycle near the site where King James II was killed in 1460. The castle estate features woodlands with mature oak, lime, and beech trees, and a riverside walk where you might spot wildlife such as oyster catchers, herons, otters, and even salmon jumping in the River Tweed.
