    Hiking

This pedestrian bridge connects the beach to the rest of the park. Use caution, as trains do come through from both directions. After crossing the tracks, a long set of stairs leads down to the mixed sand and gravel beach. The beach is a wonderful place to spend some time enjoying the views.

    110m

Embark on the Piper's Creek and Wetlands Trail Loop, an easy 4.2 miles (6.7 km) hike that guides you through the lush Pacific Northwest forest of Seattle's Carkeek Park. You will gain 352 feet (107 metres) in elevation over approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes, making it a perfect outing for a morning or afternoon. As you hike, you will follow the winding path of Piper's Creek, traverse unique wetlands on well-maintained boardwalks, and eventually reach a beach offering expansive views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains on a clear day.

Planning your visit to this popular route is straightforward, as Carkeek Park is easily accessible in northwest Seattle. Parking is generally available within the park, providing a convenient starting point for your adventure. While the overall difficulty is rated as easy, be prepared for an initial descent using switchbacks and a noticeable steep climb when you ascend the South Bluff Trail, adding a bit of challenge to this otherwise gentle loop.

This trail offers a rich blend of natural beauty and local history, showcasing a diverse ecosystem within the city limits. You will encounter a salmon-bearing stream, explore meadows, and pass by the historic Piper's Orchard, a nod to the area's past. The wetlands section, with its specialized plant life and opportunities for spotting waterfowl, highlights the ecological significance of this urban green space, providing a unique natural escape.
