Stolwijk was known for its "Stolksche" cheese. Around 1920, the Nutricia company tried to industrialize this form of cottage industry and therefore set up a cheese factory with a milk reception. However, this was short-lived.
Cheese making played an important role within the total activity that took place on a farm. Cheese making was (and in many cases still is) an important task of the farmer's wife.
Despite the building's very short functional period, the current remains are a fine example of a small-scale industry within a mainly agricultural community.
