The bronze statue stands on the Wijcker Brugstraat and looks towards the train station, said to be looking for the guests coming to the Hotel Beaumont. As part of the "renovation" of the Wijcker Brugstraat, the sculpture was placed in its current location on August 8, 1985. It was designed by the artist Frans B. Carlier on behalf of the municipality of Maastricht. From the "People of Mestreech" he got his name "De Wiekeneer" on the second day.
