    Hiking

Near Fort Hill, the trail meanders through the Red Marple Swamp wetland in a circular route, with one section on a wooden boardwalk.
    nps.gov/caco/planyourvisit/red-maple-swamp-trail.htm
Historically, the area was a natural, low-lying swamp that supported only a few species, such as the hardy red maple. In the 20th century, the swamp was drained to control mosquitoes. Over the years, dry conditions caused the understory vegetation to thicken and prevent the growth of young red maple trees.
In several pilot areas, the understory vegetation was removed to give the red maple better opportunities to grow.
