According to legend, given its profile, which features a step at three-quarters of its height, it was once a gigantic chair used by the devil to dominate the entire valley, surrounded by a tribe of witches: hence the toponym 'carega,' meaning chair in the Venetian dialect. Also known in ancient times as the 'Prìa longa' (long stone), the 'Sojo di Rameston', or the 'Ramm Stoan' (stone of the crows, in Cimbrian).

The rope to climb to the summit has been replaced by a ladder made of rope and logs, but the ascent (and above all the descent!) must still be undertaken only if you are safe and very carefully.
