Hike the Buck Mt from Pilot Knob Trail, a moderate route covering 6.2 miles (10.0 km) with a total elevation gain of 1924 feet (586 metres). You can expect to spend around 3 hours and 31 minutes on this journey. The path begins through a forest of northern upland trees and conifers, featuring some stream crossings. As you climb, the scenery opens up, culminating in spectacular panoramic views of Lake George and the surrounding mountains from the bald-rock summit. Before reaching the very top, you will find a large open rock face that offers another expansive view to the southwest.

Parking is free and readily available at the trailhead on Pilot Knob Road, making access straightforward. However, be aware that there are no water sources or restrooms provided at the start of the trail. Hikers are encouraged to sign the register at the trailhead, especially since several paths originate from this single point. This trail is also dog friendly, so feel free to bring your canine companion along for the adventure.

This trail is a popular choice on the eastern side of Lake George, situated within the Lake George Wild Forest. From the summit, you can clearly see the central part of the lake and its numerous islands. On a clear day, your gaze can extend even further to the High Peaks of the Adirondacks, offering a grand sense of scale and connection to the wider natural landscape.
