The Steinweg is one of Marburg's most unusual and oldest streets. A paved connection between the old town and the Elisabethkirche, which is divided into three parallel levels due to its distinctive hillside location – known as Plantage, Loch, and the upper level. The street has existed since the Middle Ages and was called "Klingelberg" before 1370. Numerous historic half-timbered and bourgeois houses from the 16th to 19th centuries stand along the Steinweg, making it one of the most picturesque sections of the old town.
