Great economic importance for Gotthard traffic. Bridge construction and maintenance by Zug and Zurich. Rebuilt as a covered wooden bridge after destruction in the Sonderbund War of 1847. Replaced by a prestressed concrete bridge in 1960. The wooden bridge was relocated and re-erected upstream between Sennweid and Sihlmatt.
