Hiking

The lake is 28 km long and has a water volume of 215 million m³. The dam was built between 1926 and 1932 for flood protection and to generate energy. It is 205 meters long, 65 meters high and 47 meters wide at the base. It is located in the northernmost part between the Bleiberg mountains. The reservoir got its name from these mountains.

Like hardly any other low mountain range, the upper Saale Valley changed its original character with the construction of the dam. A completely new landscape emerged.
Saalburg now lies directly on the "Thuringian Sea" 🤩.

The largest reservoir in Germany, with its approx. 215,000,000 m³ of water, stretches from the Bleiberge mountains near Schleiz, to which the Bleilochtalsperre owes its name, to the beginning of the Rennsteig in Blankenstein.
