You'll navigate gentle ups and downs, with boardwalks now covering many of the previously muddy sections. The highlight is reaching Morgan Lake, where you can enjoy views across the water to the distant Lima Mountain. It's a tranquil, easy hike, ideal for those seeking quiet natural beauty.
This 2.2-mile (3.5 km) out-and-back route is rated easy, with a minimal 115 feet (35 metres) of elevation gain, taking approximately 55 minutes to complete. Before you set out, make sure to fill out a BWCA day permit, which is required for all visitors.
Beyond being a pleasant hiking trail, Morgan Lake Portage serves a dual purpose as a gateway for canoeists entering the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
