Every year in March, a special natural spectacle takes place on the forest slopes of the Ölgrund. Countless wild snowdrops bloom - especially along the southern slope - and show off their typical bell-shaped white flowers with green-yellow spots. The plant from the Amaryllis family has spread out over a large area like a carpet.

The spring snowflake (Leucojum vernum), also known as the March snowflake, March cup, March bell or large snowdrop, is a plant species in the Amaryllis family. The bulbs, which are about 2 centimeters thick, are formed from the sheath-shaped leaf base and lie about 30 centimeters deep in the soil. The spring snowflake is a sub-Mediterranean-sub-Atlantic plant species of floodplain forests and mixed deciduous forests. It is considered particularly protected under the Federal Species Protection Ordinance and endangered according to the Red List. All parts of the plant are poisonous because they form alkaloids such as lycorine and galantamine. (Wikipedia)
