This journey covers 23.5 miles (37.9 km) with a gentle elevation gain of 790 feet (241 metres), typically taking about 2 hours and 14 minutes to complete. You will cycle past charming villages and historic castles, like Château de Menthon-Saint-Bernard, enjoying continuous views of the lake and surrounding peaks.
Much of the route follows a dedicated car-free "voie verte" greenway, offering a smooth and safe ride. However, be aware that some sections, particularly between Bout-du-Lac and Menthon-Saint-Bernard, require sharing the road with cars. The eastern side of the lake presents the most notable incline, a short climb with a single hairpin bend near Talloires. Along the way, you will find convenient amenities such as water stations, bike repair points, and numerous cafes to refuel.
The Tour of Lake Annecy is celebrated as one of France's most beautiful cycling routes, known for its exceptional natural beauty and accessibility. Its mostly flat terrain makes it suitable for a wide range of cyclists, from casual riders to enthusiasts. The route gained international recognition when it was featured as an Individual Time Trial stage in the 2009 Tour de France, cementing its status as a premier cycling destination.
