Embark on the Diamond Lake Loop for a refreshing hike around the scenic lake, offering continuous views of the water and distant mountains. This moderate route spans 11.2 miles (18.0 km) with a gentle elevation gain of 220 feet (67 metres), making it accessible for many. You can expect to complete the entire loop in about 4 hours and 36 minutes, enjoying the pleasant forested sections and open lake vistas.
When planning your visit, be aware that mosquitoes can be quite active, especially during June, so come prepared with repellent. The trail is generally considered easy due to its mostly flat and paved surface, welcoming families and hikers of varying skill levels. You will find ample parking near the trailhead, making access straightforward for a day trip. Consider starting your hike earlier in the day to enjoy cooler temperatures and fewer crowds.
This loop is also known as the John Dellenback Trail, honoring a significant figure in the region. As you hike, you will pass through areas rich with wildflowers, particularly around Silent Creek, adding splashes of color to your journey. The route provides excellent vantage points for appreciating Diamond Lake itself and the majestic presence of Mount Thielsen in the background.
