The bronze monument, erected in 1909, is dedicated "To the memory of Ferdinand von Schill and his comrades-in-arms." Ferdinand Baptista von Schill was a Prussian officer who fell in Stralsund on May 31, 1809, during the Napoleonic Wars, after having occupied the city a few days earlier.

The monument was created by the Berlin sculptor Hans Weddo von Glümer and was restored in 2019.

The Schill monument was erected on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Ferdinand von Schill's death. On the front of the stone pedestal, the name "SCHILL" is written in gold letters. On the back of the pedestal, a plaque is attached containing the inscription "To the memory of Ferdinand v. Schill and his comrades-in-arms". wikipedia
