"In the quarrel between the Reformed and the Lutherans, the latter (1578) were defeated and were not allowed to form their own congregation in the interest of the uniformity of the development of the Reformation in Wesel. The Lutheran congregation was not founded until 1603. For a long time, the service took place in two residential buildings on the corner of Korbmacher-/ The strong increase in Lutherans caused by Prussian administrative officials and military personnel who had been transferred to Wesel made it necessary to build a new church.
