    Hiking

At over a mile long, this stunning stretch of beach feels like a secret. It has rockpools and grassy cliffs, a waterfall halfway along and a coast path above it. There are several campsites in the area but few settlements, so the beach is usually very quiet.

    80m

Embark on a moderate hike along the Llŷn Coastal Path: Porth Ysgaden Loop, a route spanning 8.2 miles (13.3 km) with an elevation gain of 283 feet (86 metres). You can expect to complete this journey in about 3 hours and 26 minutes. The trail guides you across grassy coastal paths and quiet country lanes, revealing hidden coves and dramatic cliffs. As you go, you'll discover the unique, natural rock harbour at Porth Ysgaden Headland, a perfect spot to pause and take in the views. You'll also pass by sandy stretches like Porth Towyn, offering a true taste of the Welsh coastline.

Before you set out, remember that this moderate hike requires a good level of fitness. Walking boots are highly recommended, especially if there has been recent rain, as some paths can be winding and slippery. While much of the trail is straightforward, you will need to be sure-footed on certain coastal sections. The route is generally easy to navigate, following clear coastal paths and quiet country lanes.

This loop offers a varied experience within the beautiful Llŷn Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, including choughs, along the cliffs. You might even spot seals close to the shore, adding a special touch to your coastal adventure. The trail also takes you past Penllech Beach, known for its rockpools and a small waterfall.
