A wooden church was mentioned in 1375. The noble family of Exdorf exercised patronage. In 1429 the village had an independent parish, which included the neighboring town of Obendorf. The last of the noble family from Exdorf was Georg von Exdorf, who was also a pastor around 1438.
The present church was consecrated on November 14, 1730. Two hundred years later, the interior was extensively restored. Another interior renovation took place in 1994, with the ceiling painting Ascension Day being restored.
In 2004 the 1894 was bought by Theodor Kühn from Schleusingen
created organ repaired.
