The tubular tower was built in 1435 as part of the fortifications of the Rothenburger Landhege (1433). At the end of the war in 1945, the tower was destroyed by US tanks, leaving only the stump of the tower. It had the function of a watchtower and a customs post. Despite its destruction, the current listed building stock contains valuable stone coats of arms (from 1669 and 1664) and a lintel from 1560.
