This very well preserved (and maintained) bridge is on the old Roman road between Angers and Nantes. Its architecture, however, suggests that it was rebuilt in the Middle Ages.
The river, diverted in the 18th century, passes a few meters away, but no longer under the bridge.

Located in Thouaré-sur-Loire, the **Pont Romain dans le Vallon du Gobert** is a charming small stone structure with a semi-circular arch, probably built between the 17th and 18th centuries on the route of an ancient road that connected Nantes to Angers. Today, preserved in a green and shaded setting, this historic bridge once spanned the Gobert stream (whose bed has been diverted) and now serves as a discreet refuge for a colony of bats.
