The cemetery, originally planned as a “central cemetery,” is located in what is now the Zurich-Wiedikon district. The first two crematoria in Switzerland still stand here today, although they are no longer in operation.

The Sihlfeld cemetery is also the largest contiguous green space in Zurich and is therefore appreciated by many walkers.

Hiking

The Sihlfeld cemetery in Wiedikon is the largest cemetery in Zurich. However, the entire area is no longer used as a cemetery; the green area also serves as a park, with beautiful avenues and meadows lined with old trees. Several famous people are buried here, such as the creator of Heidi, Johanna Spyri and Henry Dunant. The cemetery is open around the clock.
