Hiking

The Levada dos Tornos runs almost level along the southern coast, offering sweeping views of Funchal, terraced fields, and the Atlantic Ocean. The path winds through eucalyptus and laurel forests, past gardens and small houses, always accompanied by the gentle murmur of the levada. The well-maintained, though occasionally narrow, trail is ideal for a leisurely hike with plenty of opportunities for photo stops.

The path along the levada is flat and easy to walk; only the tunnel is a bit more difficult and requires a good lamp and waterproof clothing.
