Embark on a challenging alpine hike through Stelvio National Park, following the historic SAT 104 route. This difficult traverse covers 10.2 miles (16.3 km) with a significant elevation gain of 5190 feet (1582 metres), taking around 7 hours and 39 minutes to complete. You will discover a landscape shaped by ancient glaciers, passing by the striking blue waters of Lago Marmotta and the reflective surface of Lago di Careser, all while enjoying views of the Ortles-Cevedale group's high summits.
Planning your visit requires careful consideration due to the high-altitude environment. The trail connects Val di Peio and Val di Rabbi, offering a true mountain experience. Be prepared for varied terrain, from unpaved mountain paths to more demanding alpine sections. Always check weather conditions before you set out, as the mountains can change quickly, and respect the pristine wilderness you are hiking through.
This route offers a unique opportunity to witness the natural beauty and wildlife of Stelvio National Park. As you cross the ridge from Monte Vioz to Monte Cevedale, keep an eye out for local animals like roe deer, marmots, chamois, and eagles. The journey concludes at Rifugio Cevedale G. Larcher, providing a well-deserved rest among some of the most beautiful alpine scenery in the Italian Alps.
