This old mill, also known as Molinaccio, was owned first by the Brancaleones, then by the Vagnarelli family.

    Hiking

The Molinaccio in Piobbico is an ancient mill located in the Val d'Abisso, near Monte Nerone. This ruin, built in stone, has some rooms leaning against the slope, partly dug into the rock, one of which has a barrel vault. A waterfall falls next to the mill, and some small waterfalls are present further upstream. The path that leads to the mill starts from the Church of S. Maria in Val d'Abisso and is flanked by a dry stone wall made of squared stones.

Embark on a difficult 7.0-mile (11.2 km) hike from Piobbico to Balza Forata, a loop in the Gola di Gorgo a Cerbara, that will challenge you with 3091 feet (942 metres) of elevation gain. This demanding route typically takes around 5 hours and 48 minutes to complete, leading you through dramatic limestone gorges, extensive forests, and open mountain pastures. You will navigate rocky environments with vertical walls and scree, culminating at the spectacular Balza Forata, a natural rock arch offering panoramic views of Piobbico and the surrounding valley.

This difficult trail requires a good to very good level of fitness, sure-footedness, and sturdy shoes. Some parts of the route may be technical or hazardous, potentially requiring specialist equipment and prior experience. The CAI 201 trail to Balza Forata starts near the Sanctuary of Santa Maria in Val d'Abisso, providing a clear starting point for your adventure. Be prepared for varied terrain, including sections that follow rocky walls and potentially slippery stream crossings.

The Gola di Gorgo a Cerbara is part of the Umbrian-Marche Apennines, known for its unique geological formations shaped by water and wind. The Balza Forata, also called "Foro della Madonna," is the trail's most notable feature, steeped in local legend. Along the way, you can also discover the ruins of an old mill with a nearby waterfall and the accessible Grotta dei Cinque Laghi. This trail is highly regarded as one of the most beautiful excursions in the Pesaro Apennines.
