The Tuolumne Grove Trail offers a distinct experience, leading you along a paved road through sugar pines and white firs before revealing a magnificent stand of Giant Sequoias. You'll descend into the grove, encountering impressive trees like the "Dead Giant Tunnel Tree" which you can walk through, and observing forest recovery from the 2013 Rim Fire. This 2.8-mile (4.4 km) hike, with 476 feet (145 metres) of elevation gain, is rated easy and typically takes around 1 hour and 19 minutes, but remember the return is all uphill.
To access the Tuolumne Grove Trail, you'll find parking at the Tuolumne Grove of Giant Sequoias Restroom & Parking area. The trail's "reverse" elevation profile means you'll be climbing back out, so plan your energy accordingly. It's a great option for families, and in winter, the trail becomes a popular spot for snowshoeing, offering a different perspective on the giant trees.
What makes this trail particularly notable is the chance to see Giant Sequoias in a quieter, often less-visited setting compared to the Mariposa Grove.
