The Steinmühle in Mellrichstadt was owned by the Premonstratensian monastery of Hausen. At the end of the 14th century, it was sold to the hospital in Mellrichstadt. In 1437, the citizenry took over the mill with the consent of the Bishop of Würzburg. However, the monastery did not accept this, and a settlement was reached.

The mill originally belonged to the Hausen monastery near Kissingen and only later to the Mellrichstadt hospital. It was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War and then rebuilt. The mill wheel is the only evidence of the former mill.
