Embark on a difficult 12.2-mile (19.7 km) loop from Bova to Montegrosso, a challenging hike through the rugged Aspromonte National Park. This route features a significant 2438 feet (743 metres) of elevation gain, requiring about 6 hours and 7 minutes to complete. You will traverse varied terrain, including ancient mule tracks along the Fiumara Amendolea and paths through pine forests, with panoramic views from Monte Grosso overlooking the Amendolea River and the Mediterranean landscape from viewpoints like “Passu da zita.”
This hard hike demands very good fitness, sure-footedness, and sturdy shoes; some alpine experience may also be beneficial. The trail begins in Bova, a picturesque village that serves as an excellent starting point for your adventure. Be prepared for diverse surfaces, including unpaved sections, asphalt, and paved roads, as you navigate the park's dramatic scenery.
