The Kühlungsborn Strandpromenade is a remarkable coastal pathway stretching for almost four kilometers along the Baltic Sea in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Situated in the popular resort town of Kühlungsborn, between the historic Hanseatic towns of Wismar and Rostock, this promenade is widely recognized as Germany's longest continuous beach promenade. At an average elevation of 7 meters above sea level, it seamlessly connects Kühlungsborn West with Kühlungsborn Ost, offering expansive views of the sea and the surrounding coastal landscape.

Visitors consistently praise the Kühlungsborn Strandpromenade for its uninterrupted vistas of the beautiful Baltic Sea. The sheer length of the promenade allows for extensive walks, providing a sense of tranquility and connection with nature. Many are drawn to the inviting atmosphere created by the numerous cozy cafés, restaurants, and playgrounds dotted along the route, making it a perfect spot for lingering and enjoying the fresh sea air. The iconic Kühlungsborn Pier, or Seebrücke, also stands out as a beloved landmark, offering panoramic views and a popular spot for boat tours.

For those planning a visit, the promenade is designed to be highly accessible. It is predominantly pedestrian-friendly, with many sections offering barrier-free access suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. While the promenade itself is generally flat and easy to navigate, some adjacent coastal paths might present more varied terrain. It's worth noting that certain sections of the promenade are closed to motor vehicles, bicycles, and inline skates to preserve a peaceful environment for walkers, ensuring a relaxed experience for everyone.

The Kühlungsborn Strandpromenade is ideal for leisurely strolls, enjoying stunning sunsets, and engaging in various activities. Beyond walking, the area is popular for cycling, with paths extending to nearby towns like Rerik, and offers opportunities for longer hikes along the coast. The wide, sandy beach, known for its excellent water quality, invites relaxation in traditional "Strandkörbe" (covered wicker beach chairs). The promenade also hosts open-air cinema events and concerts in its two concert gardens during warmer months, making it a vibrant destination for families and individuals alike.

One of the most cherished aspects of the promenade is the constant presence of the Baltic Sea, with the sound of waves providing a soothing backdrop to any activity. The historical Grenzturm, a former border watchtower from the Cold War era, offers a unique glimpse into recent German history, while the traditional resort architecture along the promenade adds to its charm. Whether you're enjoying a coffee with a sea view or watching the ships pass by the Seebrücke Kühlungsborn, the experience is always memorable.

To fully appreciate the diverse offerings of the Kühlungsborn Strandpromenade, consider exploring the various trails and routes that branch off or run parallel to it. The almost four kilometer long promenade in the Baltic Sea resort is the longest promenade in Germany. It connects the east with the west of Kühlungsborn.

The beach promenade, which runs parallel to the beach along the dunes, offers uninterrupted views of the beautiful Baltic Sea. Playgrounds, cozy cafés and other places invite you to stroll and linger.

My favorite tour from Kühlungsborn to Rerik and back. Unfortunately, the steep coast area between Kägsdorf and Rerik is also partially closed due to coastal demolitions. You can only get there by pushing the bike. But the numerous places with a beautiful view of the Baltic Sea make up for the exertion.
Even the view from the Bastdorf lighthouse on the way back quickly makes you forget the one or the other climb.
