The Kapalua Coastal Trail offers an easy and incredibly scenic journey along Maui's northwestern shore. You'll experience a diverse landscape, moving from paved sections to rugged lava rock, soft sand, and boardwalks, all while enjoying panoramic ocean views and glimpses of Moloka'i and Lanai. Look out for the distinctive Dragon's Teeth lava formations and the peaceful Kapalua Labyrinth as you make your way along this 3.7-mile (5.9 km) loop, which has a gentle 226 feet (69 metres) of elevation gain and takes about 1 hour and 34 minutes.
To make the most of your visit, aim for an early morning start; the trail has very little shade, so it can get hot later in the day. Proper footwear like sneakers is recommended due to the varied terrain. You'll find public restrooms available near Kapalua Bay and D.T. Fleming Park, making this an easy hike near Honokahua Burial Site for families.
This trail is notable not just for its beauty but also for its cultural significance, passing by the sacred Honokahua Burial Site. The route showcases a blend of natural beauty, from pristine beaches to volcanic rock, alongside resort landscapes, and is part of Kapalua Resort's commitment to preserving West Maui's natural ecosystem.
