The Monte Stivo Ring Trail offers a moderate hiking experience, guiding you through varied terrain. You will start in peaceful beech and larch woods, then emerge into open pastures where cows often graze. As you climb higher, the path becomes rockier, winding past dwarf pine and rhododendron before reaching the Monte Stivo viewpoint. This 5.3-mile (8.5 km) route involves a significant 2215 feet (675 metres) of elevation gain, typically taking about 4 hours and 5 minutes to complete.
Before you set out, be aware that this trail requires good fitness and sure-footedness, especially on its steeper sections. If you plan to hike during winter or when snow and ice are present, crampons are highly recommended for your safety. The Rifugio Prospero Marchetti, located just below the summit, provides a convenient spot to rest and refuel during your journey.
This loop is a rewarding challenge for hikers seeking expansive views of the region. From the summit, you can enjoy spectacular 360-degree panoramas that include Lake Garda, the Sarca Valley, and the distant Brenta Dolomites. It is a notable route for its diverse ecosystems and the comprehensive vistas it provides of the surrounding alpine landscape.
