    Running

Gladys Lake is situated just past Grand and Moose Lakes on the Grand Pass Trail. Set in a serene alpine meadow surrounded by mountains, this lake is worth the 3,000ft elevation gain roundtrip! Note that the majority of the ascent is saved for the end of the run - good training for multi-peak runs or ultras!

Embark on the Grand Pass - Lillian Ridge Loop, a difficult hike that takes you through a diverse landscape of alpine meadows, old-growth forests, and rugged mountain peaks. This challenging route covers 7.4 miles (11.9 km) with a significant elevation gain of 2442 feet (744 metres), typically requiring about 5 hours and 31 minutes to complete. As you ascend, you'll discover beautiful lakes like Moose Lake and Gladys Lake nestled in the valley bottoms, before reaching high alpine country that feels like tundra. The trail offers panoramic 360-degree views of the Olympic Mountains, including Mount Olympus with its glaciers, and on clear days, you might even spot Mount Rainier and Mount Baker in the distance.

When planning your hike, be aware that the road leading to Obstruction Point, a common starting point, can be narrow, unpaved, and winding with steep sections. You should prepare for a challenging drive to reach the trailhead. Also, water sources can be scarce for several hours along Lillian Ridge, so make sure to carry enough water for your entire hike. If you intend to camp at any of the lakes, remember that backcountry permits are required.

This loop is a prime example of the Olympic National Park's rugged beauty, showcasing its unique transition from lush forests to high alpine environments. The route provides an excellent opportunity to experience the park's diverse ecosystems and its vast, untouched wilderness. It stands out for its extensive views and the feeling of remoteness it offers, making it a memorable adventure for experienced hikers seeking a true mountain challenge.
