A station on the quincunx hiking trail "Red Kite" is the former Bodenthal district. Copper slate was mined here from around 1500 to 1850. The mining area was developed via three tunnels and several light holes (fresh air supply). Today's water-bearing tunnels form the habitat for a large number of specialized animals. A few years ago, not far from the sign, with the appropriate equipment, you could rappel down a light hole into the underground tunnels. Unfortunately, the ditch is occasionally misused by thoughtless contemporaries for illegal waste disposal.
