The functioning watermill with sawmill is today largely preserved in its condition of 1860 or 1930 and is located on the Kirnitzsch about 3km from Hinterhermsdorf, in the middle of the forest (in the so-called National Park Saxon Switzerland), without connection to the public electricity, water , and sewage network.

The hydropower plant has a gradient of 3.60 m and a mean water volume of 450 l / s (fluctuation of 1000 l / s), which corresponds to an average power of about 20 hp or 15 kW.
