The Borderland Museum opened its doors on November 12, 1992, exactly three years after the opening of the border gates over the B 243 between Nüxei and Mackenrode.
Following its relocation, the Borderland Museum has been located in the spa park of the town of Bad Sachsa since December 16, 2016, in the immediate vicinity of the tourist information office.
Its motto is:
Preserving & Remembering, Warning and preserving the originals and artifacts.
Remembering the tragedy and suffering of the people in formerly divided Germany.
Warning against the consequences of indifference to the societal debate.
