The Bollandists are an institute founded by the Jesuits that deals with hagiology, the study and description of the lives of saints. These were collected in the Acta Sanctorum, the first volume of which appeared in 1643, and in their own magazine Acta Bollandiana. The name refers to the Jesuit Jean Bolland (1596-1665), who laid the foundation of it.

Godfridus Henschenius also Godfried Henskens (Venray, June 21, 1601 - Antwerp, September 11, 1681) was a Roman Catholic priest and Jesuit. He was a close associate of Jean Bolland and one of the first Bollandists.
