    Hiking

The West Mendip Way long distance trail climbs Loxton Hill towards Bleadon Hill. The views across the Somerset Levels and over the M5 are huge.

    Cycling

An absolutely beautiful double track turning into singletrack that runs downhill towards Loxton. Fast, rocky, rough and with some beautiful views. Four stars, would recommend to a friend, chef's kiss.

Bleadon Hill & Loxton loop — Mendip Hills

    150m

Embark on the Bleadon Hill & Loxton loop, an easy 4.3-mile (7.0 km) hike that typically takes around 1 hour and 58 minutes to complete. You'll gain 493 feet (150 metres) as you traverse diverse landscapes, including country lanes, rocky paths, and enchanting woodlands. A significant portion of the route follows the West Mendip Way through vibrant green fields. The highlight is undoubtedly the 360-degree panoramic views from Bleadon Hill, offering sweeping vistas of the Somerset countryside, the wider Mendip Hills, and the Bristol Channel.

This circular route is generally considered easy, but it does feature some steep ascents and varied terrain, making it unsuitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs. Be prepared for potentially muddy sections, especially after rain, so appropriate footwear like wellies is recommended. While much of the trail is serene, be aware that some parts run along country roads and may have background noise from the M5 motorway.

The Bleadon Hill & Loxton loop stands out for its incredible photographic opportunities from Bleadon Hill, the highest point in the western Mendips. As you hike, keep an eye out for local wildlife, including buzzards, and various flora like wild thyme and orchids. The trail also leads you through the charming village of Loxton, where you can admire its historic cottages and a unique street lamp dating back to Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee.
