This beautiful cottage is right on the corner, but blends in to this wonderful village so keep your eyes peeled! Definitely one for the insta updates, a great cultural tick box. The house is actually a museum so you can pop in and learn about her life... And her brother lived just up the road, so if you have time for a detour you can take the left opposite the house and find Chawton House 1 mile up the lane (where they have an amazing tea room courtyard!)

Also worthy of mention is Cassandra's Cup, a tearoom/cafe still open for business where a nice and warm beverage can be had to warm up a little in those cold Winter days...

Embark on the Jane Austen and the Old Yew tree loop from Chawton, a moderate hike that guides you through the serene Hampshire countryside. You will discover charming woodlands, open fields, and meadows, offering vistas that have largely remained unchanged since Jane Austen's era. This route covers 4.8 miles (7.8 km) with a gentle elevation gain of 186 feet (57 metres), typically taking around 2 hours and 1 minute to complete.

When planning your visit, be aware that the trail features varied surfaces, including asphalt, natural paths, unpaved sections, and gravel. Parking is readily available in Chawton village, which also provides convenient amenities like local cafes and pubs for a stop before or after your hike.

You can visit significant historical sites such as Jane Austen's House Museum and the ancient Yew Tree at St. Mary’s Church, directly linking you to her world and the landscape that inspired her timeless novels. It is a perfect way to immerse yourself in the cultural heritage of the South Downs National Park.
