Mothern borders Germany. The Rhine forms the country's border. In the past, the river branched into numerous main and secondary branches. There were at least two settlements on the former riverbed, called Haut-Village and Bas-Village. As is well known, the Rhine was straightened according to plans by the engineer Tulla, so that Mothern grew much later to a population of almost 2,000 people. Today, tourism plays an important role there.
