This chapel and the nearby fountain were dedicated to Saint Fidelis, a 17th century martyr.
On October 5, 1729, Fidelis, who was regarded as the first martyr of the Capuchin Order, was beatified in Immenstadt and canonized on June 29, 1746 by Pope Benedict XIV. Together with Camillus von Lellis. Today his head is kept as a relic in the Capuchin monastery in Feldkirch.
