Praça das Amoreiras is a charming square located in Lisbon's Amoreiras neighborhood, with a rich history linked to urban development and the city's water supply.
It was created in the 18th century as part of the Aguas Libres Aqueduct project, which runs through the square with its majestic arches.
Originally, the space was planted with more than 300 mulberry trees to feed silkworms, as a silk factory operated in the area. The factory building still exists and today houses the Arpad Szenes – Vieira da Silva Foundation, dedicated to modern art.
