"District boundary column for the royal Bavarian forest districts of Dormitz, Tennenlohe and Neunhof. The name "red" comes from the red colour of the earlier wooden boundary columns. The symbolic "forest hammer" was an important tool for foresters. The forester used it to mark each felled tree to prevent wood theft or illegal felling."
