The stately pseudo-basilica - Our Lady of the Ascension is one of the few parish churches in this region that is not central to the village community. The church was built on the highest point of Erwetegem. Admiring this monumental building does not require a trained eye. You can read the timeline through the ages through the various construction expansions. Where everything started in the 13th century as a humble place of worship, people have expanded it into a pseudo-basilica of the Zwalm region.
