The village of Rockenfeld was at this location. This was given up in 1969 and the houses and farms burned down.
In memory of the place, the Rockenfelder Kirmes takes place here on May 1st.

The small town of Rockenfeld was located on this area. In 1965 the Rockenfeld municipal council decided to dissolve the village. Since 1969 there has been only one house that was only demolished after the resident's death in 1995.

The notorious Rockefeller family also came from the town:
"The first documented ancestor of the Rockefellers is Goddard (or Gotthart) Rockenfeller (* 1590 in Fahr, today Neuwied). The name is a designation of origin that derives from the name of the settlement Rockenfeld (first mentioned in 1280 as Rukenvelt, because of the Location on the first ridge between the Rhine and Westerwald). Today Rockenfeld belongs to the Neuwied district of Feldkirchen (Rhineland-Palatinate); the town was abandoned and the last house was demolished in 1995. The surname Rockenfeller is still relatively common in Neuwied."
