Orgiba, or Orgiva in English is the capital of the region and is a small town where you meet people living in alternative ways. On my last visit, I stayed at the campsite south of town. They are not that many and deserve to be pointed out. Orgiva is a good base camp to rest. The city center presents a monumental statue of the head of the hero of Cervantés: Don Quixote.

The Lanjarón Loop immerses you in the beauty of the Sierra Nevada foothills and the Alpujarras, offering a road cycling route with landscapes ranging from lush vegetation and ancient trees to panoramic views of mountains and the Mediterranean on clear days. You'll pass by the Rules reservoir and follow the Guadalfeo river, with the opportunity to see dramatic gorges and traditional farmlands. It's an immersive experience that combines nature with a challenge.

This difficult 40.4-mile (65.1 km) route demands 4847 feet (1477 meters) of elevation gain, with an estimated completion time of 3 hours and 39 minutes. The climbs are constant, such as the 5-kilometer section after Órgiva, and the descents are varied, from fast to technical. Lanjarón is a good place to stop, refill your water bottles at its fountains, and enjoy a coffee, taking advantage of the hospitality of the "City of Eternal Youth."

The region is known for its quality roads and strong cycling culture, making it an ideal destination for intermediate to advanced cyclists. In addition to its natural beauty, Lanjarón stands out for its high life expectancy, attributed to its pure air and Mediterranean diet. It is one of the most popular cycling routes near Lanjarón, offering a unique combination of sport, culture, and spectacular views.
