Now part of Milton Keynes' modern sprawl, Loughton was once a standalone village dating back to medieval times. All Saints Church is the oldest remaining building, thought to have originated in the early 13th century.
There are plenty of other clues that Loughton has been here for much longer than Milton Keynes, such as some lovely thatched cottages and ancient earthworks.
The village is on the Swan's Way, a long-distance bridleway that's popular with both walkers and horse riders. The Ride High Equestrian Centre is a well-established, local facility.
