    Hiking

This beautiful property is overshadowed by a dramatic story: Crown Prince Rudolf - the son of Emperor Franz Josef I and Empress Elisabeth - and his lover Mary Vetsera died here in 1889. You can learn more about history on a tour of the former castle. Today it is used as a Carmelite monastery.

    Hiking

A cultural tip - this should be visited. The Jagdschloss can be visited with the NÖ-Card with free entry but without a tour as often as you want, it is open all year round.
Until 1889, Mayerling Castle was a hunting lodge in Mayerling near Alland in Lower Austria, southwest of Vienna. Today it houses the Carmelite Carmelite St. Joseph.

In 1889, Mayerling became the scene of the tragedy surrounding Crown Prince Rudolf. To this day it is not entirely clear how the matter happened. Later the emperor had a Carmelite monastery built on the site. Today there is a chapel where the bedroom with the tragedy happened. You can visit everything, it's worth it.
