In total, corn is grown on 29 percent of the agricultural area in Ammerland (12,655 ha). Most of the maize area is used for the cultivation of silo maize for animal feed (9,182 ha) or harvested as grain maize (286 ha), around a quarter (3,187 ha) is used for energy maize for biogas plants.
