Until 1983 there were 2 native soldiers here - one with a helmet, the other without a headgear. Both held a spear over which a flag was draped. Created in 1935, it symbolized the evil spirit of National Socialism. Unknown sawed off the statue just above the feet. It was not put up again, but replaced by a commemorative plaque: "Never again war and fascism". The frighteningly pithy saying "Despite adversity and death forward and upwards" is still present.
