This command bunker was built as part of the Great Antwerp Defence Line, with the Anti-Tank Ditch as a protective barrier around Antwerp. This fortification extended from the port of Antwerp to Massenhoven. The bunker served no purpose during the German invasion of 1940. However, it was used by the Canadian liberators from September 22, 1944, until early October as a command bunker for the coordination of the Battle of Lochtenberg in Sint-Job (2 km away).
